building two types of navigation

Just downloaded and installed v1.41. I want to place a top navigation and a left navigation. On organising parts no 'Menu' or 'vertical menu' is displayed. Also can I make certain pages display in one or the other navigation?

When you add a page below a certain level it will appear in the left navigation. The menus are placed in the master page (/layouts/top+submenu.master) and are not implemented as parts)

So I need to edit this template to suit what I am building.
What if I need the first and second level to show on every page and the top navigation has no relationship to the left navigation.
Basically I want to mimic this site: in the way the navigations are displayed

I'd probably make a new master page and have the left navigation follow the node structure. The top navigation would be managed separately, e.g. they could be placed below a certain page which is referenced from the start page.

I am trying to implement 2 menus. I have made the top menu follow the node structure. I have a custom left menu control. Can you tell me how to add another menu to this custom control to display another set of pages.

Are you using nested lists for menu? You can pass in any root you want to the tree builder:

<%= N2.Web.Tree.From(N2.Find.StartPage, 2).Filters(new N2.Collections.NavigationFilter()).ExcludeRoot(true)%>
